STEM and Eco Fairs

On Friday, May 1, L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute welcomed students and staff for a full day of learning through its STEM Fair and Eco Fair. Together, the events highlighted how students are exploring real-world environmental challenges and sharing their ideas with the broader school community.

Throughout the day, Chester Le Junior Public School’s Steel Pan student group brought energy to the space with a mini concert at the top of each hour, beginning at 11 a.m. Their performances created a vibrant backdrop as students moved between exhibits and activities.

In the cafeteria, the STEM Fair featured more than 100 student-led displays and presentations. Projects focused on topics such as air and water filtration, food waste, plastics pollution and innovative approaches to ocean clean-up. More than 300 students visited the fair, engaging directly with presenters and learning about the research behind each idea.

In the school’s Market Square, the Eco Fair brought together students from 10 schools to showcase ecological programming through interactive booths. Visitors explored projects related to sustainable agriculture and food security, while community partners shared resources and hands-on learning opportunities. Prizes and giveaways added to the excitement, with more than 700 students taking part.

Students also participated in scavenger hunts and STEM interview workshops, creating additional opportunities to build skills and make connections.

“This day is about giving students a platform to share their thinking and learn from one another,” said Omar Murji, educator and event organizer. “When students see that their ideas can contribute to real environmental solutions, it builds both confidence and a sense of responsibility for the future.”
