Air Quality Update

Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers,

Today, Environment Canada issued a Special Air Quality Statement indicating that high levels of air pollution are possible due to smoke from forest fires in Quebec and northeastern Ontario.

Toronto Public Health advises that it is important to reduce the intensity of sports activities or reschedule events when the health risk is moderate or high. After reviewing the Air Quality Health Index and guidance from Environment Canada and Toronto Public Health, all strenuous outdoor activities, including athletic events, planned for tomorrow and Thursday will be rescheduled or moved indoors where possible. While outdoor recesses may continue – students are encouraged to avoid strenuous activity and schools will, if supervision levels allow, make every attempt to accommodate those who wish to stay inside or are experiencing symptoms such as coughing or throat irritation.

While many are already in use, TDSB schools will also ensure that HEPA air filters are continuing to be used – especially during this time of poor air quality.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and should any additional steps need to be taken on the advice of Environment Canada and/or Toronto Public Health, we will provide additional information to families.

Thank you.
