We are committed to the promotion and ongoing use of the French Language within the school. We anchor our teaching and learning in the Ontario Curriculum and in our students’ lived experiences as they develop their skills in French. We are committed to promoting French culture by inviting French authors, planning excursions to French-speaking sites and organizing an annual Carnaval.

Bannockburn Public School's Mission Statement

École Bannockburn Public School is one of the Four French Immersion Centres in TDSB. The red brick school opened in 1924 and housed 325 students but closed in 1981 due to declining enrolment. The school will expand by one grade per year up to and including Grade 6 in September 2027.

In September 2024, École Bannockburn Public School reopened as a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion Centre.

Early French Immersion begins in Junior Kindergarten. All class activities are conducted in French until the end of Grade 3 although some specialist subjects (like Health and Physical Education) may be taught in English. Formal English instruction is introduced in Grade 4. The program continues with 50% instruction in French and 50% in English for Grades 4-8. Students who successfully complete the Secondary French Immersion program will receive a Certificate of Bilingual Studies in French Immersion from the TDSB upon graduation. https://www.tdsb.on.ca/Elementary-School/School-Choices/French-Programs/French-Language-Programs

Student Success

We believe that every student can reach their potential. Professional Learning for staff, regular data gathering, analysing and monitoring are some of the critical measures that inform our decision-making. At École Bannockburn, we want every student to feel safe, supported, and challenged. Following the Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) multi-tiered framework, we structure our academic, behavioral, and mental health resources into three distinct layers of support. This structure ensures that every child receives the exact level of care and attention they need, when they need it.

We support students through a timely and tiered intervention model of In-school Support Team (IST), where school staff work together to suggest and implement strategies to assist thriving students, to School Support Team (SST), where our Board partners from Psychology, Speech and Language and Social Work, assist us in identifying and providing appropriate supports for our students. At École Bannockburn, we believe that equity means providing every student with exactly what they need to thrive. We have a dedicated resource teacher who assists students in need through small-group instruction and support.

School as a Community

We serve and benefit from a caring, curious and committed parent and caregiver community. Parent volunteers and our school council are critical to the overall growth of the school. We value the contribution of our parent partners.

Student Nutrition Program

Starting in October 2026. Every morning students will enjoy a variety of food items including fruits/vegetables, whole grains and protein. TDSB along with our partner, Toronto Foundation for Student Success, is committed to supporting the City of Toronto’s vision of a universally accessible morning meal.

Before and After Care Program

Network Child Care Services will be offering a After-School program at our school beginning in September 2026. Network will continue to access the viability for a morning program and will include this option once enough are obtained. Kindergarten and School-age (4 to 12 years)

Before and After school program, Professional Development Days, March break, Winter break, Summer. Enhanced curriculum-based activities in art, music, literacy, numeracy, physical education, science and technology. Daily nutritious snacks and lunch provided on full days (non-instructional days). Subsidized spaces may be available through the City of Toronto Children’s Services. Please visit www.toronto.ca/children or call 311 to apply for a fee subsidy. Subsidies can be transferred into the new program from another child care program.
