This afternoon, Robin Pilkey, Trustee for Ward 7, was acclaimed the new Chair of the Toronto District School Board. Pilkey replaces Shaun Chen, who resigned as Chair last week to run in the federal election.

A Professional Chartered Accountant, Pilkey was first elected as Trustee for Ward 7 (Parkdale-High Park) in the fall of 2014. Prior to her election, she served as Chair of the Ward 7 Council and chaired the parent advisory committees at Swansea Public School and Western Technical-Commercial School.

As Chair, Trustee and TDSB parent, Robin is committed to achieving quality and equity of opportunity for students through financially sustainable solutions. Working together with her fellow Trustees, the City of Toronto, and the Province of Ontario, she is also passionate about continuing to build upon the TDSB’s work to develop schools as hubs for the community.

Quick Facts

  • Chair Pilkey’s term will end November 30, 2015 – after which Trustees will hold the annual Organizational Board meeting to select the Chair among other positions.

  • With Pilkey’s election as Chair, Acting Chair Sheila Cary-Meagher will resume her duties as Vice-Chair of the Toronto District School Board.

  • The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2015.

“I want to offer my sincere thanks to my fellow Trustees for placing their faith in me as Chair — a role that I approach with both a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of optimism. While there are challenges ahead, I’m confident that our Board will meet them head on.”
