Racial Literacy From Theory to Practice: Navigating and Advocating for Anti-Racism in TDSB Schools

Categories: News

Tuesday, March 21 is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the Toronto District School Board(TDSB) is committed to addressing incidents of hate and racism that continue to take place throughout the district. To recognize the day, the TDSB is hosting two professional learning opportunities for staff and students from Kindergarten to Grade 6; and Grades 7 to 12. There’s also a session open to parents/families/caregivers.

All three sessions will provide opportunities for interactive conversations about the need for racial literacy in classrooms and schools, as well engage in the “Archeology of the Self” – an action-oriented process requiring love, humility, reflection, an understanding of history, and a commitment to working against racial injustice. The goal of the workshop is for participants to identify (within their sphere of influence) an action item and articulate the best approach to achieving it.

To show your support for the day, school communities and families are invited to participate by publicly displaying and declaring their pledge to fighting racism by using the following hashtags:

a.    #EndRacism

b.    #AdvocateForFightingRacism

c.     #StopRacism

d.    #CriticalLoveForTSDB

All three sessions take place at various times on Tuesday, Mar 21, 2023
