In celebration of International Women’s Day, Toronto District School Board students and staff from across the city came together for conversations about education, body image, entrepreneurship and overcoming challenges.

“For me, International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the lives of girls and women, to reflect on what we are doing and all that we have to look forward to in the future because of women and girls just like you,” said Director of Education Colleen Russell-Rawlins in her opening remarks.

Students and staff from North Albion Collegiate Institute, RH King Academy, DA Morrison MS, and Willowdale MS came together at Willowdale Middle School. Keynote speaker Tanika McLeod, an entrepreneur in the generative AI space, encouraged students to consider their pathways in the technology sector.

Director of Education Colleen Russell-Rawlins, as well as Superintendents of Education Marwa Hamid and Jennifer Chan spoke to students about their own journeys and asked students to share more about their dreams and how they wanted their education to support them in achieving their aspirations.

Praveena, a Grade 8 student, from Nelson Mandela Park P.S. designed the original T-shirts for students for the occasion.
