Statement from TDSB Chair Chris Bolton

TDSB Trustees vote to append Memoranda of Understanding to existing local collective agreements.

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Categories: News Releases

This evening, Trustees of the Toronto District School Board voted to append the Memoranda of Understanding between the province and the unions to existing local collective agreements. In total, there are nine local collective agreements involving the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council that will be affected.

Staff will be working with the Board’s labour partners in the days ahead to finalize these agreements and more information will be made available as we work through this process.

Trustees have also passed a motion that I enter into discussions with the Minister of   Education with regards to rescinding Regulation 274, ensuring that school boards receive funding to cover the full costs associated with provisions of the Memoranda of Understanding and that school boards are equal partners in all future collective agreement bargaining negotiations. In addition, I was asked to write an open letter to the Minister outlining concerns with appending the MOU to collective agreements.
