For the first time ever, the TDSB is very proud to announce that five students achieved an average of 100% in their top six Grade 12 courses, earning them the honour of being named the TDSB Top Scholars for the 2021-22 school year. Learn more about these impressive and inspiring students:
Nina Do
Humberside Collegiate Institute
Not only did Humberside CI’s Nina Do work incredibly hard to achieve an average of 100% in her graduating year, she also spent her evenings tutoring other students in Math and French. Outside of school, Nina enjoys reading and biking around Toronto with her friends; however, violin is her true passion. Nina has been playing violin for 10 years and says that it helps her relieve stress. Since moving to Canada from Vietnam in 2014, Nina has lived in both New Brunswick and Toronto. Next year, Nina will be attending the University of Waterloo next for System Design Engineering.
Pasha Ho
Harbord Collegiate Institute
Pasha Ho completed high school in just three years and graduated from Harbord CI with a 100% average in his Grade 12 courses. Pasha is a Schulich Leader nominee, works at MLSE Launchpad and is an involved member of his school and local community. A recipient of the President’s Scholar of Excellence Award, Pasha will be studying Engineering Science at the University of Toronto next year, with a goal of obtaining a master’s degree in engineering.
Avaneesh Kulkarni
Victoria Park Collegiate Institute
When it comes to academic interests, Victoria Park CI graduate Avaneesh Kulkarni, who achieved a 100% average in his top six Grade 12 courses, is particularly interested in math and coding. That being said, he also enjoys other subjects too, including chemistry, English, physics and French. In school, Avaneesh was the leader of Math Club, Coding Club and Linux Club. Outside of school, he spent time playing basketball, running and playing the piano. In the fall, Avaneesh will be going to the University of Waterloo for the Computer Science program.
Sienna Muller
Etobicoke School of the Arts
As a graduate of Etobicoke School of the Arts, Sienna Muller’s high school experience was a balancing act between a strict academic timetable with an intense dance program. For a long time, she wasn’t sure if she would pursue classical ballet or science as a career. Attending Etobicoke School of the Arts allowed her to explore both interests. In addition to achieving an average of 100% in her top six Grade 12 courses, Sienna acted as a peer tutor and mentor, volunteered in her community, had a part-time job, was elected dance captain of DancESAtion (the school’s dance company), and performed in many shows. This summer, she is working as a Research Summer Student at SickKids in a Genetics and Genome Biology lab. In September, Sienna will be attending the University of British Columbia in the Science One Program.
Kyle Sung
Richview Collegiate Institute
As one of the TDSB’s top scholars for the 2021-22 school year, Richview CI’s Kyle Sung achieved an average of 100% in his top six Grade 12 courses while also participating in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Outside of school, Kyle is passionate about writing and performing original music. He has released songs on streaming platforms (like Spotify and Apple Music) where he sings and plays all instruments (piano, guitar, drums, violin, and more). Kyle also figure skates competitively at the national level in ice dance, and was the president of his school's debate club. Impressively, he can also solve a Rubik's cube in 10 seconds! Next year, Kyle will be attending McMaster University and plans to major in Math and Computer Science.
