Hodgson Middle School's Mission Statement
Hodgson Middle School is located in North Toronto on Davisville Avenue, just east of Mount Pleasant Road. Hodgson serves approximately 600 students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Students have homeroom as well as rotary subjects with a variety of teachers. Hodgson is proud to offer programming in English and Extended French, as well as programming designed to support learners of English as a Second Language and learners with a variety of learning profiles. Hodgson opened in September 1915 and has been proudly serving the North Toronto community ever since.
At Hodgson, we have an outstanding teaching staff who address and value the holistic needs of the adolescent learner. Our comprehensive academic program provides students with opportunities to display their true abilities in a safe and nurturing environment. Staff and community members support our extensive co-curricular programs in the areas of art, music, drama, and athletics. Our student population contributes to the community by supporting various community outreach organizations.
Our Dedicated Staff
One of the greatest strengths of Hodgson is its staff. They are enthusiastic, hard working, and incredibly devoted to the intellectual and social emotional welfare of their students. They ‘get’ adolescent learners, enjoying the idealism, curiosity, strengths, and challenges that young adults bring with them into the classroom. The staff is of diverse backgrounds, and they bring with them a vast array of talents. Staff members are musicians, recording artists, graphic designers, knitters, jewelry makers, bakers, artists, gym rats, marathon runners, and world champion athletes! They bring these skills with them into the classroom every day.

A Proud Athletic Tradition
Our athletic department fields many competitive teams, and has won numerous city championships in hockey, touch football, basketball and other sports. We also field a very active track team each Spring. The athletic department also offers non-competitive activities such as intramural volleyball and cross country running.
Arts @ Hodgson
Hodgson offfers rich Arts programs. Students take Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts. We are now offering an expanded Music program which includes Instrumental Music for all students.
Music @ Hodgson
Our students choose an instrument in Grade 6 and develop the skills and ability to express themselves through music. We have an itinerant strings program that students can choose to join. Concert Band provides studens great opportunities to make music with regular performances at festivals, in school events as well as community and sporting events.
Extra Curricular Opportunities
We recognize at Hodgson that learning happens in many different ways and in many different places. It happens between students on the soccer field or in board game club, with a teacher. Hodgson offers an exciting range of extra curricular opportunities for all students.

Student Life - Where You Belong
GO TEAM
The Hodgson community is an exciting place for adolescent learners to learn. There are many unique opportunities for students designed to engage a wide range of learners and interests. The Hodgson Hawks are known city wide for excellence in athletics. All interested students are encouraged to join our sporting teams. We also offer cooking club, sewing club, jewelry club, board games club, student council, Green Hawks Eco Team and other exciting extra curricular opportunities.
Every second year Hodgson goes on a large school trip. This year we are going to Ottawa. Students will get the opportunity to ski, skate, visit Parliament, the Canadian Mint and other Ottawa landmarks.
We believe in the importance of including all students in school life. An example of this is how we positively integrate students of both the Extended French program and the English program. Students of both programs are mixed together through gym or health, through the Unified Arts Program, as well as through a series of Spirit Days that we hold at the school.
WHAT SETS US APART
As a Middle School staff, we have all chosen to work with adolescent learners. We celebrate the idealism, creativity, curiosity, and social aspects of students of this age. While we only see students for a brief window of two years, the amount that they grow and change over that time is remarkable. As a staff, we are privileged to provide students with a safe space to explore who they are, to make new friendships, to try new things, and to excel and work hard in all of their subjects.
Our students go on to be very successful at secondary schools such as North Toronto, Northern, Leaside, Forest Hill, Rosedale Heights School for the Arts, Claude Watson School for the Arts, Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, and the Academic Program for Gifted Athletes at Northview Heights. When they come back to visit us, and many come back for years after they graduate, they remember Hodgson as a home away from home.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Hodgson is a proud member of the surrounding community. We take great pride in the reputation that we have built over more than 100 years, and we seek to continually strengthen community links. Our School Council meets regularly to discuss our school and community. Our staff and school maintain an online presence to help communicate with parents and guardians. Email and Twitter help keep parents informed of student activities. Individual teachers maintain an online presence to communicate what is occurring in their classrooms. We have a strong connection to community learning resources. Several classes are partnered with business experts. Together, they create business plans and run an event to raise money for charity. Some classes visit the Mount Pleasant Library to hear book talks and to sign out books. In Science, students take walking tours as a part of their birdwatching unit.
