More Information About William G Miller Public School

New Technology

We have recently acquired with the financial support from the Miller Advisory Council, four SmartBoards.  This new technology allows students to actively interact during lessons.  We are also participating in a board wide project called "Mobile Computing Initiative" which provides laptops to junior classes to support the teaching and learning of various subject areas.

Literacy/Numeracy

We have balanced literacy and numeracy blocks in all classes.  We have reorganized and revamped our library so that resources and materials are readily accessible and available to students and teachers.  We conduct ongoing inventories purchasing additional manipulatives and resources as needed.  Every class has a book bag program and student progress is monitored.

Special Programs

We offer a variety of special education programs and services to meet the needs of all students, including students with exceptionalities.  We house a primary behavior program; students are integrated with our regular program as often as possible.  We also offer a Home School Program to students requiring additional academic support.

Miller Advisory Council (MAC)

We have a very active and supportive School Council.  Members represent parents, the community, the teaching staff and meet on a monthly basis.  Parent and community volunteers assist in school activities, in the library, the classrooms, on trips and with special lunches and events. MAC supports through fundraising, many areas of the curriculum based on school needs.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

At Miller we encourage all students to get involved outside of their classrooms. We provide many leadership opportunities where students can make a difference; Library Ambassadors, Playground Activity Leaders, Safety Patrollers, Morning Announcers, Lunch hour Peer Leaders, Kindergarten Helpers, Office Helpers, and Prefects. We also offer many extra-curricular activities that allow students to reach their full potential and develop important skills. We hold monthly assemblies that give opportunities for classes and individual student to present work that focuses on Character Education traits.  We also recognize students' efforts and achievements during these assemblies, parents are invited and encouraged to attend. At the beginning of each term, every student sets obtainable academic goals under the guidance of our caring staff.

WHAT SETS US APART

The French Immersion program attracts families from neighbouring elementary schools and for this reason many of our students are bussed to and from school every day.  This does not stop students from participating in activities offered after school - parents are dedicated and support the school initiatives.  Students participate in numerous sports teams; we regularly take home first and/or second place at the division meetings.  Our Track and Field team is also quite remarkable, teachers and students alike are committed and together achieve much success.  We have an active school and great team spirit!
