Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior Public School's Mission Statement

Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior P. S. is a triple track school, providing academic excellence in the regular program as well as extended French and French immersion programs. We are committed to promoting academic excellence for the adolescent learner and fostering socially responsible citizens in a safe and caring environment. Our exceptional staff strive to offer a wide variety of rich learning experiences that reaches a diverse student population.

To ensure that students receive a balanced education, we have a wide variety of co-curricular activities and extra-curricular activities.

Character Ed/Indigenous Grandfather Teachings

Character Education continues to be a focus for our school. We have combined this with the Indigenous Grandfather Teachings. Monthly Character Ed/Grandfather Teachings Assemblies are held to recognize and honour students who demonstrate these character traits. Our teachers also implicitly teach these in their daily lessons.

Code of Behavour and Uniforms

The staff, students and Parent Council have collaboratively developed MacMillan's Code of Behaviour. We decided, as a staff, to end the tradition of school uniforms.

Co-curricular Activities

At MacMillan, a wide range of co-curricular activities are provided for the students. We offer over 40 different co-curricular clubs, teams, and student organizations to enrich student learning and to encourage students to get involved in school life.

Guidance and Counselling Services

Our Guidance Counsellor and programs provide students with clear 'pathways' options.  Through monthly assemblies, individualized counselling, Career Fairs, and the integration of the Essential Skills into the curriculum, students become well informed.

Our comprehensive Guidance Programs ensure that students understand themselves, and their relationships with others, as they identify educational options, goals and career alternatives. More information about our Guidance program will be available in September.
