Port Royal Public School's Mission Statement

Port Royal, a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school, opened in 1992. The school is named after Samuel de Champlain's Port Royal Habitation (1605), the first permanent settlement in Canada. Today, Port Royal is a Parks Canada National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Our wonderful students are very proud of their school, that they will tell you, is the best school in Toronto! We serve a supportive community that has high expectations for  educational success and achievement.

With an enrolment of approximately 400 students, Port Royal has over 30 staff.  Port Royal is home of "The Panthers."  We have earned many sports championships.  We have an instrumental music program that has produced excellent Junior and Senior Bands and various Dance Groups. Our community partner, the YMCA Daycare, shares space in our school building and provides daycare services for our neighbourhood. The Settlement Worker provides support to our newcomer families.  We also have other community Partnerships though Malvern Community Centre and Crescent School.

School Focus For This School Year

We will continue to improve literacy through our school-wide guided reading block and will be looking at purchasing new math resources that are responsive to current learning trends. We promote student leadership through Student Council, Me to We, Eco Schools and Safety Patrollers.  We are an ECO school working towards platinum standing.
