Anson S Taylor Junior Public School's Mission Statement

Anson S. Taylor Junior Public School is nestled within a quiet residential neighbourhood in northeast Agincourt.  There are approximately 165 children enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year for whom most have a primary language other than English.  Our multicultural diversity is reflected in the many celebrations we recognize and honour through announcements, assemblies, classroom activities and bulletin board artwork proudly displayed in our classrooms and library.  Whether it is Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Lunar New Year, or Thai Pongal, our students share their unique attributes amidst the myriad of cultural distinctions, which collectively bring a vibrant richness to our learning community.

We've Got Character

We acknowledge the ten Character Attributes implemented by the TDSB throughout the year. At monthly sharing assemblies and school-wide presentations, students are presented with an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and application of the character traits.  Whether creating a group project or enjoying the outdoors, Anson Taylor's students resolve conflicts through discussion and peaceful resolution. Their sense of respect and responsibility results in positive actions and attitudes throughout the day.  At Anson Taylor, all students learn, grow and play within the supportive embrace of a safe school environment.

Loving Literacy

Our library contains an immense collection of books which span all reading levels.  The shelves are regularly stocked so our children have many choices when making their weekly selections.  Bins of culturally diverse and dual language books are readily available for new language learners as well as picture books, graphic novels, magazines and topical reference materials.

Books abound at Anson Taylor and literacy remains an important key focus of our School Improvement Plan.  Whether students seek humour, biographies, adventures, science fiction, maps, dictionaries, or revered classics, they will find them here in our library.

Software Savvy

Smartboards, iPads, laptops, Elmos, and robotics now launch information technology's possibilities into the classrooms.  Teaching through the use of these tools is broadening the students' learning experiences and supporting inquiry-based engagement. It is used to teach students to think critically, access and analyze information while encouraging global engagement.

Vocal and Instrumental Music

Our vocal music teacher fosters a love for singing with our primary students. Junior students are also learning to play the ukulele. Our Grade 5 and 6 students refine their instrumental expertise with our music itinerant weekly.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

Anson S. Taylor Jr. Public School provides unique opportunities for academic, social and emotional growth through numerous integrated activities.  Reading Buddies pairs primary and junior students weekly so they can explore fiction and non-fiction books together through oral reading, attentive listening and shared responses.  Inquiry-based learning gives students hands-on opportunities that support specific curriculum strands.  The grade six students have an opportunity to attend the Scarborough Outdoor Education School where they experience a week of outdoor learning and adventures in the natural beauty of Algonquin Park.  Students from Grade 1 to 5 experience wilderness adventure games at Hillside Outdoor Education School. Students build on a foundation of memorable school experiences as each grade passes, with new opportunities awaiting their discovery.

WHAT SETS US APART

Our grade six students are given ongoing opportunities to develop leadership skills through roles of additional responsibility, such as office monitors, kindergarten lunchroom assistants, school tour guides, computer and library assistants and student leadership council.  The nearby Woodside Library has the largest circulation of all community libraries within North America and is one of the many local resources of immense benefit to our student population.  Anson Taylor uses Integrated Arts to incorporate cross-curricular activities, including drama activities, recitals, dress rehearsals, Reading Buddies, the Grade 5 and 6 Band program and robotics.  We are also fortunate to have a large park and playground adjacent to the school where supervised physical fitness activities take place throughout the year. We are very excited to showcase our new outdoor inquiry space in our kindergarten courtyard.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The School Advisory Council strengthens our link with the community as we work together towards the shared common goal of student well-being, equity and academic achievement.  Our Parent volunteers help in our primary classrooms with reading and individual student support.  They accompany classes on excursions throughout the year.  We welcome volunteers in our school and look forward to strengthening home-school partnerships, in particular as we offer a morning meal 5 days a week and would appreciate parent involvement.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend our School Council meetings which are announced in the monthly school newletter.
