Scarborough Centre for Alt Studies Adult's Mission Statement

Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies (SCAS) is a dual track school that offers educational opportunities to learners (21 and over) in our
Adult Program and to young adults (18 -20) in our EdVance Program. Our school provides opportunities for our learners to achieve their future career goals in different ways:
   * prepare for further post-secondary education or training
   * improve skills for employment
   * earn a high school diploma
We offer a variety of courses  at all levels for students to obtain their high school diploma without the burden of tuition.
We are located at 720 Midland Ave, south of Eglinton, close to Kennedy Subway Station.

We offer the opportunity to learners to accelerate their credit accumulation in our quadmester system.  Students have 4 entry points to join our program.  Each student begins with a one on one interview with a guidance counsellor to provide personalized counselling towards their career path.

All courses are credit granting and may be applied towards the completion of an Ontario Secondary School diploma (OSSD). Each course is taken for 2 hours per day for 45 days. A student can take up to 3 courses per day.
Along with hair styling and carpentry there are also packaged programs in ESL, Medical Office Administration and Canadian Job Experience Co-operative Education.

CO-OP (Adults and EdVance)

Our co-op programs are vibrant and offer rich working experiences to students transitioning to the workplace. We have established relationships with a number of employers who take on our students to mentor and train them. Our students leave the co-op placement with a  new confidence about their marketability and readiness for the workplace.

Students under 21  may take grades 11 and 12 courses in Hairstyling in the EdVance program and join the adult program when they reach 21.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Our staff is committed to providing students with co-curricular and social activities that they need to enhance their experience at SCAS.  We take much of our direction form student input arising from regular student forums and from our student council.

We are a Quadmestered re-entry program with 4 entry points.  Students are able to earn up to 12 credits per year to accelerate credit accumulation and to move towards graduation.

Our students are adults and are therefore responsible for representing themselves; however, we recognize that a supportive family is important to success.  parents should speak to their children about providing the school with written permission to communicate.
