Earl Haig Secondary School's Mission Statement

Earl Haig Secondary School serves a diverse population and is recognized for its academic focus, enthusiasm for learning, lively school spirit and commitment to the arts. Even though Earl Haig has a large student population, the safety and well-being of each student is our highest priority. It also ensures a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for our students, as well as developing their leadership skills.
Earl Haig has two related but distinct programs. The Collegiate Program offers high-quality academic programming.  The Claude Watson Arts Program offers an enriched art education in Dance, Drama, Music, Film Arts and Visual Arts.

 

Enrolment at Earl Haig is framed by the terms of the Area Review Committee.  Contact the Board or the school before assuming automatic acceptance to Earl Haig Secondary School.

Claude Watson Arts Program

Experience one of the very best enriched art education programs. We invite students with an interest in Dance, Drama, Music, Film Arts and Visual Arts to apply. Students divide their day between academic classes and our extensive arts program taught by skilled teachers and guest artists. Our students perform in provincial, national and international competitions.
The program promotes creative expression, inspires excellence and instills artistic discipline in a supportive, collaborative and challenging environment. Please contact the Claude Watson artistic director at ext. 20137 for more information.

Courses

Earl Haig offers a variety of courses in all disciplines. These courses provide students with opportunities for independent learning, in addition to expanding their critical and analytical thinking skills.

Student Success Program

This program is focused on assisting students who require additional support by providing learning skills, credit recovery or rescue and tutoring support.  Students receive assistance in the development of study skills and organizational and time management skills. This program uses a preventative model to ensure both credit accumulation and skill development.
 
 

Cooperative Education Program

This program integrates academic study with practical experience in business and industry. This learning experience helps students make informed decisions about future careers. Students also develop the work habits, attitudes and job skills necessary for a successful transition from secondary school to the workplace or post-secondary education.

The cooperative education program immerses students in a variety of different areas. Placements include business, health care, child care, education, fashion, accounting, entertainment and the arts, and much more.

Computer and Information Technology

Earl Haig Computer Studies and ICT programs provide opportunities for students to prepare for future careers in ICT. Courses focus on transferable skills, concepts of critical thinking, problem solving, independent study and labour market information, to enhance transitions to employment and post-secondary learning.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

Earl Haig students have great opportunities to develop leadership skills and have fun.  Earl Haig offers more than 75 clubs and councils, as well a wide range of sports teams.  Students help to organize our Dance Nights, Art Shows, Coffee House and Zoom Film Festival.  They perform or attend our Music Showcase, One-Act Plays, Symphony and Jazz Nights.  Earl Haig's Athletic Program offers a wide range from traditional sports to specialized activities based on student interest and staff expertise. These include rugby, skiing, snowboarding, golf, boys' and girls' hockey, ultimate frisbee and dragon boat etc.
 
Earl Haig's intensive extra-curricular learning programs heighten awareness, appreciation and concern for global issues and the environment.  Enriched overseas experiences are available for travel to other countries and we host international students through exchange programs, to increase their understanding and awareness of global issues.
Cultural and arts studies are offered on trips to Greece, Italy and New York. We have established international connections with China, England, France, Holland, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Mexico and Taiwan.

WHAT SETS US APART

Earl Haig has an excellent reputation in Toronto.  The school helps students create their future.  Over 95 per cent of Earl Haig students are accepted into the university of their choice.  The school has expanded the co-operative education program, developing partnerships to respond to our students' interests.

The Claude Watson Arts Program offers an enriched art education for students with a demonstrated talent in Dance, Drama, Music, Film Arts and Visual Arts.  Graduates of this program are better prepared to advance their arts studies and to achieve their career dreams.

Earl Haig involves students in Mathematics, Science, Business, English, French and Arts contests at every level, including the Sir Isaac Newton contest for grade 12 Physics students, the Avogadro contest for grade 11 chemistry, the University of Toronto national biology competition, the provincial and international DECA for business students, Canadian Open Math Challenge, Kiwanis Music Festival and the Pierre Berton Writing Contest.
