Victoria Village Public School's Mission Statement

Everyday, Everybody, A Success
Victoria Village Public School, built in 1959, is located in the Victoria Village community in the Victoria Park and Lawrence Avenue area. Victoria Village P.S. serves students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. The school population is approximately 300. Our school population represents a variety of language groups and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.  The school houses a privately operated childcare centre: Muppets Pre-School, for children ages 2 to 10. It includes a before and after school program for our students and children from the surrounding community.

Enhancing Learning Through the Arts

Children are engaged in many activities that promote their creativity and enhance their learning.  Teachers and visiting artists engage the children in music, dance, drama, and visual arts workshops that have the students chanting, learning and creating dances, dramatizing stories, learning musical rhythms, playing the recorder and creating works of art to represent scenes from stories they've read.

WHAT SETS US APART

Children at Victoria Village are engaged in learning all day, everyday.  We celebrate all successes no matter how small.  Learning to tie a shoe or zip your own jacket is just as important as learning to read, write and calculate.  Through our partnerships and teacher and parent initiatives, the children learn from a variety of experts like scientists, poets and performance artists in a variety of learning styles that support every student's needs. We are the Victoria Village in Jack Grunsky's song and we are "the Place To Be!"

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

At Victoria Village, community volunteers and parents work with our staff and students to support classroom programs.  Public library visits and class trips to local places of interest support curriculum topics.  Our school offers the International Languages Elementary Program in Arabic, Greek and Tamil to give students the opportunity to learn their heritage languages and to appreciate their culture as well as chess, piano and tennis lessons through community partners.  "Victoria Village Hub" connects people to resource services and programs in this neighbourhood which helps our students and their families integrate into the community. Newsletters from the school and teachers to share class/curriculum and event information go home regularly.
