Maple Leaf Public School's Mission Statement

Maple Leaf Public School is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 community school, serving a diverse population of approximately 300 students. As part of the Model Schools for Inner City initiative, the staff, parents and community are committed to providing a wide range of academic opportunities and rich learning experiences for all students.

At Maple Leaf we value each and every child and work collectively to ensure the needs of every child are met. We believe Character Matters when striving to reach academic excellence. At Maple Leaf we value our partnership with our parents who are actively involved in the education of their children. We are committed to work collectively to enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become responsible and contributing members of a democratic society.

Recognition Assemblies

Students are celebrated on a monthly basis for consistently demonstrating one of our focused character traits. The assemblies are hosted by our student leaders and feature a "creative" presentation from a selected grade level. We welcome parents and community members to our monthly celebrations of excellence.

More Information About Maple Leaf Public School

Learning Buddies

Senior students learn the skills required to be an effective and supportive learning buddy to our younger students.  They meet on a weekly basis to extend a learning strategy in literacy or mathematics that has been emphasized throughout the school (eg., geometry - use elastics to create various two-dimensional shapes on the geoboard).

Model School for Inner Cities

We are a participating school in the Model Schools for Inner Cities Initiative. Our students are provided with the "tools, resources, and opportunities they need to participate fully and equally in school and in their community."

Urban Diversity Teacher Education Initiative

York University's Urban Diversity teacher candidates receive a "practical" teaching experience at our school. As a result, they become better able to integrate issues of equity and social justice into their teaching practice.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

Our students have numerous opportunities to demonstrate positive leadership skills and participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities.  These opportunities will be expanded with the change to our school's configuration. We look forward to initiating a student council and establishing more partnerships with our secondary feeder school.

WHAT SETS US APART

At Maple Leaf, it's the people and not the programs or resources that set us apart and enable us to be an effective school.  We have a staff that is "second to none!"  They are dedicated to providing a safe, caring and nurturing learning environment for our students. Our staff's professionalism is exemplary, as it is reflected in their commitment to improving instructional practices by working collaboratively to ensure that our students experience high levels of achievement.
