Etobicoke Collegiate Institute's Mission Statement

Etobicoke Collegiate Institute (ECI) was founded in 1928 on the principles of high academic standards.  As a full service secondary school we strive to reach the needs of individual students to prepare them for post-secondary success. If you are motivated to excel in both your academic and personal achievements then our school community is for you!
Renowned for our strong leadership programs, incoming students may choose to be part of our Leadership Development stream. As a moderately sized school of 1000 students, we are able to offer our students a wide array of courses, opportunities and activities both inside and outside the classroom. Check out our school website to get a more personal look at who we are.

Our staff and community partners believe that excellence in the high school experience extends beyond the classroom.  To promote social, emotional, and intellectual growth, we offer students opportunities for responsible leadership through our wide array of extra-curricular clubs and organizations. Our new formalized Leadership Development Program let students grow in the area that interests them - Academics, the Arts, Athletics and Social Justice and Citizenship are the focus choices students follow as part of their personal plan.
In addition, our extra-curricular programs include a huge variety of sports teams; music, drama and art productions; Robotics; Me to We; Student and Athletic Council; Terry Fox club and many, many more.

Student Leadership Pathway

Leadership development is a key feature of ECI. Take part in exciting leadership opportunities at every grade level. Grade 9's can apply to our LofT - Leaders of Tomorrow program and start to develop the skills, experiences and a portfolio in order to become school leaders in their senior years of high school. They will make new friends and learn what it is like to be part of a dynamic, supportive high school.  Grade 10 students participate in an overnight camp experience for a week of skill development and friendship building with student leaders from Grades 11 & 12 - an experience not to be missed!

Our Leadership programs support diversity at ECI and build a foundation for school spirit.  Self-esteen, teamwork, positive attitudes and memories to last a lifetime are built under the guidance of teaching staff and senior student mentors. In addition to a regular course load, students will commit to 100 hours of related community service in a field; participate in a mandatory minimum number of plenary sessions around the focus they choose; participate in mandatory leadership roles in extra-curricular activities.  Upon completion of the four-year program, students will receive the ECI Leadership Diploma, with an addendum to the transcript that goes beyond their academic accomplishments to include all aspects of their ECI education.
