Princess Margaret Junior School's Mission Statement

Princess Margaret Junior School is located in a family-oriented community, in the vicinity of Martin Grove and Eglinton. We currently serve approximately 350 students representing a diversity of cultural backgrounds.
Princess Margaret Junior School was first opened in September 1959 and served the children of the community for the next twenty-five years. The school was closed in June 1984 due to declining enrolment. In 1995, when the primary/junior-aged population had grown sufficiently in the community, the school was officially re-opened by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Margaret, on Friday, July 12, 1996.

Mission Statement

Princess Margaret Junior School, proud of our Royal connection, ensures equal opportunity for all our students to grow in an enriching, safe and caring environment committed to academic excellence.  In partnership with our parents and local community, we instill in our students a desire to become life-long learners who think independently, use technology effectively, and demonstrate respect for themselves, others, and the environment.

Anti-Bullying

We strive to ensure that Safe School programs and initiatives are fully implemented and that Character Education is an integral component of our learning goals.  Students are actively engaged in conflict resolution and are determined to keep PMJS a “bully-free” zone.  Example programs: Character Development, Peacekeepers, and Safety Knights.

Specialized Programs

Students are provided with the opportunity to learn from various in-school and community specialists.  Students are engaged in a variety of arts-based experiences (e.g., Recorders, Choir, Fit2Dance, and Fit Hop).  Through Partners in Action and STEM programs, students have the opportunity to integrate information technology into their regular daily work.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

Princess Margaret Junior School is actively engaged in various fundraising initiatives throughout the year to support local community groups and world sponsored organizations. Each year we participate in Autism Awareness Day, Jump Rope for Heart, Terry Fox Run, Christmas Food and Toy Drive, and E-Waste Collection. We sponsor Toronto Foundation for Student Success and Sleeping Children.

This fall, we supported Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto.  We collected over 35 boxes of most needed items, such as boxed snacks, toiletries, kitchen supplies, school supplies, and baby products.

WHAT SETS US APART

Technology is becoming an increasingly important aspect of school life.  At Princess Margaret, we have taken steps to infuse technology in teaching and learning.  Students are growing up in a digital age.  Therefore, we continuously provide them with opportunities to use computers as they learn content related to curriculum objectives.  Our teachers are using technology to engage students and support student success.

We have interative whiteboards, school-wide wireless access to the internet, a fully equipped computer lab, ladibug document readers, computers in every classroom, tablets and laptops in junior classrooms, and iPads in all classrooms.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Princess Margaret Junior School has an active School Council that meets monthly.  Parents regularly volunteer in the school.  The School Council fundraising initiatives support school and community activities and events such as visiting performers, Scientists in Schools, Blue Spruce and Silver Birch programs, and author visits.

Princess Margaret maintains ongoing partnerships with our local secondary school.  We liaise with various teacher training and child and youth worker institutes such as Ottawa, Lakehead, DeValle, and Humber College.

We partner with John G. Boys and Girls Club to coordinate various events and activities throughout the year.
