Screenagers Next Chapter -- Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience Screening

High stress, anxiety and depression are experienced by millions of young people. In the documentary Screenagers, we witness Delaney as she finds her way from ineffective parenting to much-improved strategies. We follow other personal stories of families from an array of backgrounds with a spectrum of emotional challenges. We also observe approaches in schools that provide strategies relevant beyond the classroom setting. Interwoven into the stories are surprising insights from brain researchers, psychologists, and thought-leaders that reveal evidence-based ways to support mental wellness among our youth. The impact of social media and other screen time is incorporated in all the topics raised Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER, how it may be impacting our teen’s mental health, and what we can do to help foster youth in the face of struggles.

Navigating Life’s Highs and Lows for Teenage Girls

Lisa Damour is the author of two New York Times bestselling books, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood and Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. She writes the monthly Adolescence column for the New York Times, co-hosts the Ask Lisa podcast, appears as a regular contributor to CBS News, works in collaboration with UNICEF, and serves on the Advisory Board for Parents magazine. Dr. Damour will deliver an insightful and informative conversation about guiding teenage girls through the seven transitions into adulthood.

Families Amidst Racial Traumas

Black youth and families have been experiencing racial trauma against their bodies for generations and this has contributed to the issues of physical and mental health and the way in which black people receive services. Considering recent events of anti-black racism in North America, it is important to acknowledge the immediate and vicarious trauma experienced by black youth and their families on account of racial trauma.

This webinar will look at the differential experiences of Black bodies as it pertains to the hierarchy of race, and subsequently why anti-black racism must be the focus when dealing with black people and addressing trauma. This will be an opportunity to have some discussion on how to address issues of anti-black racism to best serve people you support.

How Children Understand Race and How Adults Can Help

Many people avoid discussing race and racism with children because they believe that children don’t see race, or because they’re unsure how to have a conversation about it. Join us to hear from Professor Erin Winkler who will guide parents, families, and educators to help children understand racial identity, racism, and racial inequities in age-appropriate ways that empower the young children in their lives.
