Combined Grades - GOOD NEWS
Combined grades have been an issue for many parents as far back as I can remember. Parents have communicated to principals that they prefer their child to be in a straight grade for a variety of reasons. It’s important to know that in order to comply with the Ministry cap of 20 students to 1 teacher in every JK – Grade 3 classroom, there are more split grades than ever before. So, if your child is in a split class take heart, here’s the good news! Recent studies have concluded that “there is no empirical evidence for the assumption that student learning may suffer in multi-grade and multi-age classrooms.” In fact in many instances there are benefits to students.
