Ecole Communautaire Rawlinson Community School, officially opened in 1921. We serve an ethno-culturally diverse population, representing over 40 different languages with an enrolment of 506 students for the school year 2011-2012. We are a triple-track school, offering: an English program for students from JK to Grade 7; an Early French Immersion program for students from SK to Grade 7; and an Extended French students from Grades 4 to 7. We are a deeply committed team of educators who believe that all students can achieve and flourish. We are proud of the work we do together with our parents, our staff and our community.

We are committed to learning through a strong Arts program. In their regular Music program students learn African drumming, singing, Orff, Recorder and movement. Students learn Steel Pan, Strings and Orff instruments from Itinerant Specialist teachers. We have had a cherished relationship to Inner City Angels, whose artists have enriched our students' learning through Batik, mask-making, mural and collage. We are also very proud of the initiatives that students have led to assist the less fortunate- Haiti, Africa, Pakistan and Attawapiskat. Read more about What are we proud of?
What are we excited about this year?
Our Library has become the beating heart of the school. Ms. Costello, our Teacher/Librarian says the books are "flying off the shelves". We have started a Parent section of the library, which holds books on parenting, and books written in English and other languages. Our Parent Council has contributed to this collection. We also have increased our digital media in the library; our students will be using the library for research through print and digital media. We are planning author visits this year. We have a student-led Library Council this year, whose members will be planning activities based on student suggestions. Read more about What are we excited about this year?
Every student can learn.
We have significant support for students who need it. Starting in Grade One, we offer Reading Recovery. For Grades 2 - 6, we offer intensive support in Literacy and Numeracy. We also have two Behaviour classes. Our Learning Centre supports students in English and Frenchh. We are committed to assisting every student and addressing every learning need.
A school that jumps.
Every year, we participate in Hoops/Jump Rope for Heart and the MS Read-a-Thon. We have been recognized during the MS Read-a-Thon as the school that reads the most. Reading and physical fitness are very important at Rawlinson. This year, we ran a DPA club. How many clubs can boast 250 student members?
Nutrition is important
Our Snack/Morning Meal program ensures that students have nutritious morning food four days a week. We are subsidized by the Toronto Foundation for Student Success. Over half of our students receive this nutrition each week. Read more about Nutrition is important
Le Francais partout.
Our French students enjoy speaking French. Each year, we hold a French Speech Arts Competition for Core French, Extended French and French Immersion students. Two years ago, one of our students won at the Provincial level for his speech on Dragons. Our teachers work very closely together and with our Teacher/Librarian, to ensure that sufficient resources are on hand. Read more about Le Francais partout.
