Charles E. Webster is committed to improving the literacy and numeracy levels of our students. Our junior public school, in the Keele/Eglinton/Trethewey area, reflects the richly diverse community in which it is located. To serve the needs of our community, we offer many programs including: English As A Second Language (ESL) program for adults; before and after care program for students in grades 1-6 through the Learning Enrichment Foundation; Parenting and Family Literacy Centre for parents and their children up to 6 years; Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) worker; and specialized learning. C.E. Webster is a certified GOLD EcoSchool which is committed to greening the schoolyard and to recycling waste.
Aboriginal Education
Our playground features a permanent large stone Medicine Wheel. Forty stones represent stages of life, seasons, animals and virtues. The virtues complement character traits taught through the TDSB Build Character, Build Success Program.
The Medicine Wheel was designed by Aboriginal artist/teacher, Shannon Thunderbird, built by our students and dedicated in a ceremony by Elders of the Mississaugas of the New Credit in 2009.
The school community is invited to use the site as a place of reflection.
TDSB Model Schools Initiative
We are committed to innovative teaching and learning practices that support the academic, social, emotional and physical well-being of our students. Webster is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that respects and reflects all aspects of the school community. We believe that our school is the heart of our community.
Eco School
Webster students participate in a rich environmental education program which encourages them to develop ecological literacy while engaged in practices to become environmentally responsible citizens. Eco Schools helps improve school building operations to reduce environmental impacts. Students monitor energy use, waste reduction, recycling, and composting.
Build Character, Build Success!
Student success is dependent on a safe, caring, inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued. Much of this starts with teaching about the value of character, respecting themselves and each other, making positive contributions and thinking critically and creatively. Each month we focus on one trait and recognize students who demonstrate the trait.
Parents As Partners
We value the contributions of parents in our school communicty. Teachers welcome parent volunteers into their classes to read with students, supervise on excursions, participate on School Council and assist in fundraising opportunities. Parents are invited into the classrooms on the first day of school to meet the teacher and discuss classroom routines and expectations.
Toronto Foundation for Student Success
Our students benefit from our partnership with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success. Annual vision and hearing checkups are offered to our students with followup care as required. Students enjoy a snack through our morning meal program made possible through donations from various sources and our hardworking snack committee.
