Eastdale is a small learning community characterized by its safe, inclusive and encouraging environment. Small classes and our supportive and caring staff ensure that students are recognized for their individual needs, abilities and achievements. Students from across the city are welcome and we are a culturally diverse community of learners with a focus on employability skills.
 
Diploma and Certificate Program:
Over half of our students are working toward an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Certificate. Eastdale offers a full range of Grade 9 and 10 courses at both the Locally Developed and Applied level. There are Grade 11 and 12 courses at both the Workplace and College level preparing students for either the workplace or college.

We emphasize three key skills development areas critical for success in school, employment and life-long learning:
 
1) Academic Skills:
Developing functional literacy and numeracy skills critical for success.
 
2) Social Skills:
Developing positive attitudes, interpersonal relations, responsibility,
communication and cooperation.
 
3) Employability Skills:
Team-work, problem-solving, career
exploration, resume writing, interview, and time management skills.

Special Education - MID Program


Students with an exceptionality of MID (Mild Intellectual Disability) are part of Eastdale’s Special Education MID Program. Our focus is to  prepare students for independent living, further education or transition to the workplace. Classes focus on functional literacy (reading, writing, oral communication), functional numeracy (banking, budgeting), independent living (meal preparation, household chores, self-care) and interpersonal skills. Students gain work-related skills through Hairstyling, Hospitality, and Communication Technology Programs. Students are offered TTC Training in combination with Co-operative Education and Community Service.

Hairstyling and Aesthetics Program


A Hairstyling and Aesthetics Program is now open at Eastdale with the latest in equipment for teaching hairstyling, make-up and nail care techniques.  Students will learn fundamental skills that can be used in a salon and can practice these skills through Co-operative Education placements. The students will learn about a variety of employment opportunities.

Co-operative Education is offered to students in both the Credit and MID program. It is a unique program which integrates classroom studies with practical experience in the world of work. Students are placed with an employer on a half or full day schedule in an area of work that interests them. Students earn credits as they gain skills to transition to the workforce.

Eastdale has a professional industry standard kitchen where students learn food preparation, health and safety practices, menu planning, and customer service. Students will prepare food for  the cafeteria and will cater and serve food at special events in the community. They will learn about possible related careers and will have the opportunity for a Co-op placement.

Students learn basic computer keyboarding and software applications related to Communications and Printing Industry. Eastdale takes orders from other schools and organizations for such materials as booklets, banners, brochures, posters, cards, t-shirts, notepads and newsletters. Students gain valuable work experience in producing professional quality items.
