Independent and Collaborative Learning

Spectrum welcomes highly motivated students who are looking for an environment that provides many unique opportunities to work closely with teachers and peers. Through a wide array of project based work that emphasizes cross curricular connections, our students learn to accepting and embrace diversity as they mature and grow.At Spectrum, many subjects are integrated and delivered in blocks of time Experiential learning, independent studies and extended projects are regular parts of our programming.

Visual Arts

Spectrum offers an exiting and innovative Visual Arts program. Our integrated program links the Visual Arts to Literacy, Science and Math. Blocks of time are dedicated to studio work where students learn to develop their skills in sketching, painting, sculpture and photography. For some, this is a first time experience, for others it is an opportunity to further develop their skills.

Learning through The Arts (LTTA)

We partner with the learning Through the Arts Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music .Visiting artists from this program work with Spectrum teachers to integrate music and dance with core subject areas such as Science and Math.

Media Studies and Integrated Technology

We have a Mac lab.Students use programs such as iMovie, photoshop, iweb, Garage band and powerpoint to create films, musical videos, web designs, stop animation and slideshows. These projects  are highly motivating - to be successful students must apply there knowledge from many different reas of curriculum and collaborate with fellow students.

Student Life

We offer a variety of student led clubs which change according to the interests of our students. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas for clubs with the help of a teacher facilitator. Clubs may include Sport Stacking, art, meditation, games and yearbook.

Friendships

As an Alternative School, our students come from all over the city. Most students who come do not know many people in their class on the first day. This does not last long. Before they know it they have found kindred spirits, and have forged new and exciting friendships.
