More Than A School
Mountview Alternative is more than a school. Mountview is a family-centered environment thriving on parent/caregiver input, time and imagination. We believe in providing an enriched curriculum made possible by the support and talent of our dedicated teachers and parents. Mountview is a community that aims to inspire a life-long love of learning in our children, helping them to achieve their highest potential and grow to be compassionate, capable and creative citizens.
School Community Motto: Let's Learn Together
Our School Community Motto is "Let's Learn Together". We are committed to fostering a sense of connection to each other and the greater community, a deep respect for the diversity of all individuals, and a true joy of learning through creative, responsive and ongoing collaboration amongst all students, staff, parents and wider community members. Parents and teachers collaborate to develop regular Friendship Assemblies to enhance learning and extend concepts to meaningful experiences/activities emphasizing current community focus.
The Arts at Mountview Alternative
The Arts are integral to everyday life at Mountview, through Primary and Junior Choirs, Drama and Dance, Guitar and Drum Clubs. Students enthusiastically showcase their talents at our Winter and Spring Concerts. Through the Prologue for the Arts program, students experience live theatre presentations, reflecting cultural diversity and character development.
Music Program at Mountview Alternative
With the support of our Music specialist, we provide an interactive and fun music program throughout our curricular and extra-curricular activities. Students receive an integrated and enriched Music program, which extends into the other school programs and into community partnerships.
Student Recognition Assemblies
Each month, individual students are selected for their citizenship and academic achievement by their teachers and peers. They are recognized at an in class assembly, attended by parents. Those recognized practise our motto "Let's Learn Together" through demonstration of compassion, friendship, cooperation, problem-solving, celebration of diversity and academic success.
Outreach Programs
The school is involved in many community outreach programs:
Here to Help (Toy Drive), Daily Food Bank, Third World Awareness: Twin School, Cite Soleil, Port au Prince, Haiti, Canadian Diabetes Association. Past outreach included: Alzheimer's Research, Canadian Cancer Society, Breakfast for Children, and Make Poverty History.
