A Place to Learn, A Time to Grow, Education to Last a Lifetime!

Glenview Senior Public School opened in 1966.  It is located in the Lawrence Park and Avenue Road area.  Glenview is a triple-track school (English, French Immersion, Extended French) with approximately 680 grade 7 and 8 students. All students take a core program in Language, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography.  Students are given opportunities to acquire computer skills in our computer lab and with our wireless laptop carts.  We offer different Special Education programs (Resource Support, Home School Program), strong general arts programs (Band, Strings, General Music, Visual Arts, Dance and Drama), a co-ed Physical Education program including Aquatics, Information Technology, Family Studies, and Design and Technology.

Music Programs

Glenview offers a variety of music programs. Students can choose to continue to play their band or strings instruments to fine tune their skills acquired from junior schools. We also offer a beginning band and a beginning string program for students who wish to learn to play an instrument. A General Music program is offered to students who do not play an instrument.  Students have a chance to demonstrate their talents during our Holiday and Spring Concerts.  They also participate in the Kiwanis Music Festival and can attend Music Camp twice a year.

Technology Programs

Glenview provides a rotation of hands-on programs in well equipped facilities during the two years that students are in attendance. Students will develop their information technology skills in the computer lab (including safe and ethical uses of the Internet), participate in the sewing and cooking activities offered in Family Studies (addressing practical skills of everyday life) and learn basic design and construction techniques in Design and Technology (wood and/or metal shops).   Throughout the year, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment events such as Skills Canada, and the Technology Challenge at the Science Centre.

Character Education

Every month, students from each registration class are recognized by their peers and staff for demonstrating specific attributes related to TDSB's ten Character Education Traits.  These might include deeds performed in class, or around the school, on a regular basis.  An assembly is held to recognize the accomplishments of the students for the character trait each month.

Performing Arts Festival

Every spring, students at Glenview are invited to participate in our annual Performing Arts Festival. All students are welcome to showcase their talent. We have dancing, singing, comedy, acrobatics, magic, instruments, impressions and more! The auditions start in November. Students have a unique opportunity to share talents that we would not otherwise know about.

Social Justice

For many years now, students and staff at Glenview are working hard in helping to create a society that is based on the principles of equality and solidarity, that understands and values human rights, and that recognizes the dignity of every human being. Glenview has established a Me to We club and an environmental club called the Green Gryphons.

Transitions from grade 6 to 7 and 8 to 9

Glenview works closely with our junior feeder schools and local secondary schools to ensure a smooth and successful transition for our students.  Our Guidance Counsellor works with student ambassadors from Glenview who visit our grade 6 feeder schools.  Grade 8 students visit secondary schools prior to making a final decision for their grade 9 placement.
