Eglinton Public School has served this community for almost a century. We have a long-standing tradition of community involvement and school spirit. The school serves some 380 students from K to Gr.6. We strive to create a positive and dynamic learning environment where effort and achievement are celebrated and where everyone is treated with mutual courtesy, respect and understanding.
We are proud that our school reflects the diversity of Toronto. Our students come from over 40 different countries. Over 30 different languages are spoken by students in our school. Staff and parents are committed to providing rich learning experiences for our students.
Our Library
Our Library is the hub of the school. When the school was rebuilt in 1999, an entranceway and pillars from the old school were incorporated into the new library, serving as a small stage or activity area for students. We have a large collection books including books on child development for parents. We participate in the Forest of Reading program and Storytelling. Chess Club and Board Games Club and Pokemon Club take place here at lunch. The library also houses a mini computer lab.We participate in the Reptilia Science Program so the library is also home to our geckos.
Critical Pathways
We are currently working in professional learning teams on Teaching Learning Critical Pathways. At the Primary and Junior level, teachers work together to determine areas of curricular focus based on student achievement data. Teams develop common assessments jointly analyze student work to ensure consistency of marking across grade teams. Next steps to learning are then developed on a collaborative basis to support student success.
Learning Through The Arts
Our Junior Teachers partner with The Royal Conservatory's Learning Through the Arts program. A guest artist works with the teacher in the classroom to provide arts based instruction that is linked to core curriculum areas such as Math or Science to address the multiple learning styles of our students.
Extended French
Our Extended French program begins in grade 4. Instruction in French is for half the day. Language, Social Studies, Visual Arts and Drama are taught in French. Math, Science, Music and Physical Education are taught in English.
Toronto Schools on the Move
We are a Toronto School on the Move! We are increasing the amount of daily physical activity. Our Parent Council is developing a nutritious hot lunch program which will be piloted in February. With the support of our teachers, junior level students are developing their leadership skills by teaching our younger students playground games through the PALS program. Sports at Eglinton
Extra curricular sports are an important part of student life at Eglinton. Starting in September, with cross country running, we offer a variety of opportunities for boys and girls, including cross country running, basketball, volleyball and track and field. Primary house league soccer and floor hockey are also enjoyed by students during the lunch hour.
