Committed to Student Success!
Church Street Public School is located at Church and Carlton Streets. Several years ago, the school had a major renovation including the addition of a new third floor. In 2004, we participated in a playground improvement project. In 2007 half of the second floor of Church Street Public School was renovated in order to create The Native Learning Centre. Approximately 40 native high school students attend The Native Learning Centre and are taught by teachers from Jarvis Collegiate.
Many of our students speak English as a Second Language and were born outside Canada. Approximately 30 languages are spoken at Church Street Public School.
Church Street School offers regular Junior Kindergarten through
Grade 6 programs.

Literacy is one of Church Street's core values and as such we have made it a priority to have a full time librarian who partners with teachers on a regular basis in order to enrich and deepen their learning. Our Library Information Centre is open to students after school Monday to Thursday, 3:30 - 3:45 pm to encourage students to visit with their parents. Our Library website is http://www.on.ca/libraries/libraryEle.asp?schoolNo=5210
and is a safe, user-friendly resource that includes the best directories and search engines, online encyclopedias and databases, general reference, learning games and quality links for all subjects.
Citizenship/Character Assemblies
We have monthly Citizenship/Character Assemblies at Church Street Public School that involve the entire school body. Each assembly is based on a character attribute and every class takes a turn hosting a assembly by putting on a performance based on that month's character attribute. Parents are encouraged to attend the assemlies.
Sports Teams
Church Street Public School students are exceptionally lucky to have dedicated coaches who have led them to several victories in the recent past in the area of basketball. The Girls Basketball Team were finalists in the Conference finals; The Boys Basketball Team and Girls Basketball Team won the Conference finals, and were runners up in the City finals.
Parent Involvement
Parents are strongly encouraged to be as involved as possible with their child's academic school. Several opportunities are provided to parents throughout the school year in order for them to become more involved with the school. These opportunities include: School Council Meetings, Literacy, Numeracy and Curriculum Nights. A Settlement Worker is on site two days a week.
Child Care/Parenting Centre Partners
Child care is offered on site by the Church Street Child Care Centre and off site but in close proximity, by the YWCA on Grosvenor Street.
The Parenting Centre welcomes families with preschool aged children from Monday - Thursday, 9 - 2 pm.
