The Pond
We are fortunate to have a beautiful pond in front of our school. It is home to a blue heron, turtles, birds, fish and other wildlife. Our students also use it for cross-country running in the fall, snowshoeing in the winter and nature walks and photography throughout the year. Watching the seasons change around the pond is a favourite pastime of our school community. Our students are integrally involved in the maintenance of this resource with tree plantings and clean-up crews.
Eco School
We are a Gold Certified Eco School. We have implemented many initiatives over the last few years such as "boomerang lunches", eco clubs, community clean-ups, monitoring of energy usage and reduction in paper consumption. Future plans include an outdoor education area for students, further greening of our yard and a student audit of our paper consumption.
The Arts
We have teaching specialists in our Music, Art and Phys. Ed. programs. You can see evidence of this in our exemplary band program, the amount of art that adorns the walls of our school and the quality of our Phys. Ed., Houseleague and Intramural programs.
International Language Programs
Currently we are offering two Tamil classes, one Greek and one Mandarin class. These classes are also open to students from other schools.
Student Leadership
We have many opportunities for student leadership. Our grade 7 and 8 students raised money to build a school in Sierra Leone. Our grade 4 and 5 students received training from the Playground Pals program to teach younger students cooperative games. Other examples are Environmental Club, Student Ambassadors, Girls on the Move, Student Announcers and Me to We Club.
Student Support
We provide a self-contained program for primary students. A Home School Program for identified students from grade 4-8. We have an ESL teacher, Reading Recovery for Grade 1 students, Early Reading Intervention program, Gr 7/8 tutoring and Tutors in the Classroom. A social worker and guidance counsellor are available for social-emotional needs.
