William Tredway Junior Public School is located in Toronto East and is named after a prominent Scarborough pioneer who exemplified leadership in the community. The school opened in September 1956 with ten classrooms and one Kindergarten room. Currently, our two-storey school accommodates 30 classes, in 25 classrooms and 5 portables, and serves a student population representing a rich diversity of cultures.
Tredway is a dual-track school, offering instruction in English from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 and French Immersion from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Mission Statement
In a safe, challenging and active learning environment, we will promote academic, social and emotional growth and respect for self, others and the environment. We encourage co-operation and communication amoung students, staff and the community. Character education is also a central component to helping our students become productive, active and prominent members in our community.
School Focus
We are continuing to improve and increase our Literacy and Numeracy resources and programs. We are doing this through professional development and ensuring supporting resources are in the classrooms. The staff continues to analyze the data from a variety of resources available to us, which helps us drive our instruction and assessment strategies to improve student performance and learning within our school.
Language and Literacy
At William Tredway we believe that a solid foundation in literacy is critical. Through daily reading with materials at instructional levels, with a focus on improving reading comprehension and higher order thinking we strive for success. We use DRA, Alpha Jeunes, running records CAT 4 and CASI assessments with data from our report cards and EQAO, to inform our practice.
Math, Science and Technology
William Tredway students receive a strong foundation in their numeracy skills. The ability to be numerate is critical to success both within the school system and in the larger community. Furthermore, our students have an opportunity to develop their technological skills in the classroom and our computer lab, with the latest technology from Mac laptops to Mimio Boards.
Student Leadership
At William Tredway, we believe that part of our mandate is to develop well rounded students who are prepared to be productive and positive citizens in our society. We offer leadership opportunities to all our students through awareness of Character Education, School Prefects, School Safety Patrollers, our Eco-Club and other opportunities within the school.
Student Athletics
William Tredway has a long history of excellence in athletics. Our recent success of a city championship (Grade 6 Girls Softball), House Leagues, Track and Field, Cross-Country, Bordonball, Flag Football are some of the many extra-curricular sports that happen at Tredway. Our staff are dedicated to keeping our students active and healthy.
