School Focus for This School Year
We are continuing to improve and increase Literacy resources and programs. Teachers will use effective assessment strategies such as DRA and CASI to assess students strengths and areas for improvement. We will enhance competencies in mathematics through increased professional development and ensuring superior resources in the classroom. The staff will continue to analyze the data that is available to us to improve student success within our school.
Read 180 Program
Some students in our Intermediate and Junior grades, who may be struggling with their reading, will have the opportunity to take part in this program. It is a program that allows students to work on their reading on a computer that assesses students and provides them with a program at their own level.
Special Education Programs
We have 1 self contained special education programs in our school. It is the Intermediate Mild Intellectual Disability programs. These students attend class for the more core subjects and are integrated for subjects where students will experience greater success such as Family Studies and Design and Technology or Physical Education.
Technology
We are integrating the use of digital cameras, Interactive white boards, clicker system and multimedia projectors into our curriculum. We are exploring programs that provide more student interaction with their various studies. This will provide leadership opportunities for our students and for celebrating success at the school.
Building a Respectful School Climate
Our objective is fostering respect for each other through team building and cooperation in house league, sports teams, clubs, and awards assemblies. Anti-bullying workshops and in-class dialogue are becoming a foundation for student appreciation for the needs of others. We are intent on using our character education program to continue to foster a positive school climate.
