Major-General Georges-Philéas Vanier (1888 – 1967) was a Canadian soldier and diplomat who served as the Governor General of Canada. He was appointed as such by Queen Elizabeth II on the recommendation of then Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker to replace Vincent Massey as viceroy.

Georges Vanier S.S. is a special place with a wide variety of opportunities to meet the needs of all students. We offer courses in all areas of the Ontario Curriculum. Our Specialized programs include MSC2.CA, Program2 Art, "One World Youth Arts Project" and BSc@Van which offers a Business Specialist Certificate. The Aerospace program and "Focus on Information Technology" programs offer students the opportunity to earn nationally recognized certifications. In addition we offer Advanced Placement courses for senior students. We prepare students to be successful in the global economy of the 21st century.

2012-2013 Features


- Significant growth in our three Specialist High Skills Majors - ADVANCE (Animation, Design, Visual Art, & Creation Experience), Aerospace and ICT.
- Transfer Credit Agreement with Centennial College. Successful students may enter the College's Aircraft or Avionics Maintenance programs with Advanced Standing for the Theory of Flight course.
- Georges Vanier is the home of the One World Youth Arts Project (OWYAP), an international initiative. Our latest outreach resulted in the establishment of four OWYAP programs in schools in Kenya.

MSC2.CA is a specialized multi-disciplinary, three-year program beginning in Grade 10 at Georges Vanier Secondary School. The program links the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum core subjects to our own focus subject areas of Mathematics, Science, Computer Science and Communication Technology.
