Pleasant View Junior High School is a vital and exciting place of learning for  students, staff, and parents. Our student population is representative of 36 countries. A large percentage of students has a primary language other than English and many are directly involved in an English Language Learner support program within their daily classes. Resource teachers provide assistance for students with special needs in both integrated classrooms and small tutorial settings. Since the school opened in 1971, the school and the community have continued to develop a strong partnership that helps students to be successful.
Staff and parents work closely to ensure smooth transitions to and from junior high school.

The Arts at Pleasant View J.H.S.

The Arts are a focus at Pleasant View. In addition to our Visual Arts and Drama programs, every student in grades 7 and 8 plays an instrument in either band or orchestra.  Students also participate in a dance program which is integrated into the Physical Education program.  Our students can also participate in a school "Glee" club, Music Camp, concerts, and excursions to the symphony.  Guest artists are invited to perform at Pleasant View as a means of expanding the students' understanding of the Arts.

High Academic Standards

Pleasant View has a long tradition of high academic standards in all subjects. We are very proud of our excellent EQAO math results and high level of grade 9 credit accumulation. A committed staff offers remedial assistance on a regular basis before and after school.
Our students are offered academic enrichment through Math Clubs for each grade, Lego Robotics, Landwalker and Design & Technology Clubs. Each year our students successfully compete in city and province wide contests such as Gauss and Pascal, and Ontario Technological Skills Competition.

Our teachers work collaboratively in grade teams to create Language units that promote an authentic purpose for reading .  Book talks, author visits and guest presenters encourage students to explore a wide range of genre. Boys Reading Club, Grade 7 to 9 Reading Club and Reading Buddies support our Literacy Program.

We will  strive towards the gold designation.

Pathways to Success

Pathways to Success supports students through the transition to and from junior high school. Our grade 9 students participate in career sessions to learn about various occupations and the essential skills required.  We  have information evenings for students entering grade 7 and grade 9 to support their transition to a new learning panel.
