Shoreham " A School for Achievers"
We believe in high expectations for all students.

Shorheam Public School is a school for "achievers" . Since 1970, the school's purpose has been to serve this richly diverse community. Shoreham Public School is a safe community school where students, staff, parents and community partners work together to ensure success.

We believe that, "All children can learn" and in high expectations for all. The school population is greatly enriched by various ethno-cultural groups including the Somali, Vietnamese, Caribbean and West African nations.  There is a long and rich tradition in our school of environmental leadership, academic excellence and compassion for all.  We are inspired by the imagination, energy and creativity of our students and know they will contribute greatly to society.

Innovative Teaching Practices

Shoreham's school Plans are aligned with the TDSB and Northwest 2 Family of School Plans that stress the building of capacity among teachers in Literacy and Numeracy Instruction to ensure that students are engaged and set up for success. This includes a focus on Enduring Understanding, Inferencing and Making Connections in Litearcy and a Problem Solving Focus in Mathematics. Assisted technology such as Smartboards and collaborative planning and assessment by staff ensure appropriate programming to the diverse learning abilities of all students.

Student Success and Programming

Through enhanced real life experiences (e.g. excursions to the ROM and Ontario Science Centre), cross-curricular activities (e.g. ballroom dancing, steel pan), after school programs (e.g. basketball, soccer, table tennis, volleyball, tutoring), student engagement is a consistent focus.  Hearing and Vision Clinics are in place annually. Partnerships and programs such as Big Brothers and Sisters, York University Reading Buddies and Boys 2 Men, student leadership is fostered. The school wide ECO school focus enables students to serve as positive role models and emphasize their social responsibility both to the local and global environment.

School as the Community Hub

Shoreham is a school that is the heart of the community.  Parents and community members work collaboratively with school staff to ensure that students are continually supported. Ongoing parent workshops and volunteering opportunities are provided. The Parenting and Family Literacy Centre and Community Support worker provide ongoing supports for parents.

Environmental Leadership

This school year, Shoreham received Platinum Certification as an ECO School and this success can be contributed to the tireless efforts of teacher leaders, student amabassadors and community partnerships that have lead to efforts in greening, conservation and sharing best practices in the area of Environmental Change.

Innovation Through Technology

Shoreham has embarked on an exciting journey to engage students through interactive technology in preparing them for successful contributions as 21st Century learners. Smart boards are utilized daily in both Primary and Junior classes as well as in our French Demonstration Class. Students become the leaders of their own learning and are able to share with their peers.
