Rockford P.S. - Where Every Child Is a Star!

Rockford Public School is located on the south side of Steeles Avenue, west of Bathurst Street. The school opened in 1964 and was expanded in 1998 to include additional classroom space, a new Resource Centre and a new gymnasium. This year, Rockford houses 26 Kindergarten to Grade Six classes.

"At Rockford we believe students should receive a balanced and integrated program based on Active Learning. This program should be challenging and designed to meet the unique needs of our community. Rockford is a Gold certified EcoSchool. We are working towards a Platinum certification. We are encouraging and facilitating "green" initiatives in order to do what we can to reduce our carbon footprint and be more environmentally friendly.

Tuesday Sept. 13, 2011; Tuesday Oct. 18, 2011; Tuesday Nov. 15, 2011; Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012; Tuesday Feb. 21, 2012; Tuesday Apr. 17, 2012; Tuesday May 15, 2012; Tuesday June 19, 2012 School Council meetings are held in the evenings, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., with child care provided.

We model and teach desirable behaviours. We continue to implement the Safe Arrival Program. We work with parents to understand Safe School practices and expectations. We integrate Character Education.
We invite parents to join us on Family Literacy & Math Nights.

Math Highlights:


We are working to refine our mathematics program in Kindergarten to Grade 6 with math manipulatives for every classroom. We offer chess club opportunities for all students and assign regular math homework in all grades. We offer support for students struggling in math. We offer enrichment to our students by participating in the Fibonacci and Pythagoras Math Contests.

We integrate information technology into the curriculum. We offer ongoing staff development through school-based workshops and modeling of instruction direct instruction of computer skills (keyboarding, appropriate use of the Internet, dual platform
programs). We integrate SMART Board technology into classroom instruction.
