Some of the features and programs at our school include: a morning snack program; an International Language class in Farsi, we are a Fit for Life school and we have full day learning in Kindergarten.
Health and Wellness Academy
We are very excited about becoming a Health and Wellness Academy in September of 2012. We will be focusing on our students, parents and communities health and wellness. Students will experience and investigate a variety of activities around the five pillars of wellness; Physical, Social, Emotional, Academic and Career. This focus will also provide our students an opportunity to take a leadership role in regards to educating other schools and communities about health and wellness issues. This will be an exciting time for students of Rene Gordon!
Rene Godon is proud to be a Silver Eco School! We have worked very hard to elimanate as much garbage at the school as we can but we are continuing to strive for less. We have implemented: Literless Lunches in our Lunch Room Program as well as a daily Recycling program; weekly recycling collection in classrooms; an active student ECO Club, who monitor recycling and help educate students on the importance of recycling and reusing materials.
At Rene Gordon we believe it is important to recognize the great work and behaviour of our students. Each month we hold a Recognition Assembly to award students certificates for Academic Excellence, Citizenship and Improvement. Student award winners are also recognized in our monthly newsletter, the Rene Gordon Gazelle.
We belive it is important to work together with our community to provide our students and families the essential services they require. We presently have partnerships with the YMCA; Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) and The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scarborough.
To enrich our student's lives with the Arts, we have a specialzed Art teacher who works with students from Grades JK to 5. We also have an itinerant music Instructor who works with classes weekly in Music. Students are also exposed to special performances by professional artists.
Extensive Physical Education Program
The students of Rene Gordon are exposed to a wide variety of physical activities throughout the day and year. Students receive instruction from a Physical Education teacher four out of the five days of our cycle. There is also an active houseleague system in the school as well as participation in competitive sports.
