Finch - A Great Place to Learn!
Finch Public School was built in 1951 and is situated within a diverse community made up of single homes, townhouses, apartment buildings, condominiums, and a housing complex. Finch Flyers Child Care is also housed within the school building. Due to an increased catchment area and addition of Full Day Kindergarten in the fall of 2012, we now have about 400 students enrolled at the school. We are working together to create the highest achievement for all our students - whether they are in the regular program, the autism transition program, receiving support in English as a second language, in home school program, or in remedial skills.

Library Resource Centre
The School Library is the hub of the school and the School Library Program's mission is to teach all students to read for depth of understanding, to research with purpose and process, and to use and communicate knowledge imaginatively and responsibly.
The Teacher-Librarian collaborates regularly with classroom teachers to design, teach, and assess curriculum-based, technology integrated research projects. Through exploration of multicultural themes, authors, and library resources students acquire information and cultural literacy.
School Improvement
Literacy - Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) participate in two pathways per year to improve literacy skills.
Numeracy - teacher teams develop plans to increase student achievement in math and student ability to apply their learning to problem solving and every day life.
School Action Team - focuses on creating a safe and caring learning environment.
Integrating Technology
We are continuing to develop our use of technology within the school. Our portable netbook labs move from class to class and continues to be used by students for research and note taking. We are expanding our use of Smart Boards within classrooms and our autism transition program has piloted the use of ipads within their program.
