Lester Bowles "Mike" Pearson (1897 - 1972) was a Canadian professor, historian, civil servant, statesman, diplomat, and politician, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for organizing the United Nations Emergency Force to resolve the Suez Canal Crisis. He was the 14th Prime Minister of Canada (1963 - 1968) as the head of two back-to-back minority governments following elections in 1963 and 1965.

In September of 1987, Lester B. Pearson Elementary School opened its doors to about 125 Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students. On February 18, 1988, Lester B. Pearson's son Geoffrey Pearson and his wife, Patricia Pearson Hannah were the guests of honour at the Official Opening ceremony of the school.

In the following years, Grade 4 and 5 programs where added and the school's enrolment increased so much that the school needed larger quarters. During the summer of 2003, LBP relocated to its present location, at 7 Snowcrest Avenue. Since then, our programs have continued to expand to include grades 6, 7 and 8. Now, Lester B. Pearson is the only Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8 French Immersion Center in the Toronto District School Board.

LBP Today

Even though the school has tripled in size since 1987, it has remained true to its roots by continuing to offer a family-oriented learning environment where each child’s academic and emotional progress is fostered and closely monitored by everyone involved. At Lester B. Pearson, we believe that “all the children belong to all of us” even when they are not a member of our own classroom.

Our Parent and Community Involvement

Lester B. Pearson Elementary School is a very special school because of the high level of parent involvement. A large cadre of volunteers share their time, expertise and talent on a regular basis. A dedicated School Council meets regularly to assist and support our school community (its students, its families and its educators).  Lester B. Pearson is also the home of Petit Pearson Childcare. Petit Pearson Childcare offers before and after school programs for school age students and half-day programs for Senior Kindergarten students. For further information about Petit Pearson Childcare please call 416-222-2769.

Our students participate in many sports teams over the school year (i.e., Cross-Country, Basketball, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Track and Field, etc.)

Our Arts Program

The Arts are integrated throughout core subjects and are also enriched by specialized teachers' programming in Visual Arts and Music. Each student from Grade 6 to 8 is a member of one of our school band and performs in a number of venues. Younger students learn to play a variety of instruments, including Orff, recorders and ukulele.
