Ranchdale Public School is located south of York Mills Road and west of Victoria Park Avenue. The school was once an extensive apple orchard. A few aging apple trees still remain on the property providing shade and a boundary for our playground.
The school first opened forty years ago as an open concept school and has since been renovated to accommodate a variety of teaching and learning styles.
School population is approximately 230 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 representing approximately 30 language groups.
We have a Special Education Diagnostic Kindergarten Program that services JK and SK special needs students. We also have a Developmentally Delayed Primary/Junior class.

Family Fitness and Wellness
This year, students, teachers, parents and community members participated in an exciting evening to celebrate wellness. Ranchdale Public School hosted a wealth of interactive demonstrations, ranging from hockey to yoga. Wellness clinics were included, such as homeopathy, nutrition, relaxation, and personal training. Businesses in the community donated generously and there were many door prizes, themed baskets and a variety of gift certificates.
This event was made possible because of our active and caring community members and staff.

ECO School
At Ranchdale, we are very proud of our Gold Status as an ECO School. The greening of Ranchdale began several years ago as a vision for a butterfly and nature garden and outdoor classroom with stone benches. Our initiatives include sponsoring a child in another country, green bin program, litterless lunches, lights/blinds conservation program, walking Wednesdays, recycling and weekly Eco Club meetings with students and staff. Our environmental programs are embedded in our culture of learning.
Special Education Programs
We have two self contained special education programs - the Developmental Disability program and Diagnostic Kindergarten program. These students also have opportunities to integrate with the rest of the school for assemblies and special events.
We also offer HSP support for students who would benefit from working with a special education teacher for part of the day.
Technology
We are integrating the use of digital cameras, smartboards and other forms of technology into our curriculum. These teaching tools motivate our students to experiment and further develop their knowledge about technology.
Toronto Schools on the Move
We are an active TSM school. We participate in school-wide Daily Physical Activity and promote a healthy eating environment. We run a seasonal Kilometer Club, as well as many other special events throughout the year (e.g., Jump Rope for Heart, Terry Fox Run). In addition, we organize outdoor playground games, and coordinate indoor lunchtime intramural sports.
Reading Intervention Programs
Ranchdale provides a Reading Recovery (TM) program to students who are in grade 1 and are struggling readers.
We also have a Reading Buddies partnership with our grade 1 and 2 students and grade 12 students from our local secondary school, Victoria Park Collegiate Institute.
