Athletes Welcome!
SCI offers a High Performer program for elite athletes competing at provincial and national levels. Although Silverthorn is not available for students applying from outside the attendance boundaries, we will accept students who meet the criteria as elite athletes. We provide a flexible program for swimmers, skiers, skaters and others from a variety of athletic disciplines. Students can complete courses during the lunch hour or work on assignments away from school if their sport requires travel and time away from home. We value your academic progress and your love of sport.
Come Dance With Us
If dance is your thing or if you think it might be, SCI offers an accredited dance program for you from Grade 10 to Grade 12! In addition to performances at the school the SCI Dance team competes against other schools, with great success! We also have great school shows that not only require dancers but set designers, musicians, a sound and lighting crew and students to assist with the management of the performances. We believe in student leadership and no where does is it seen more clearly than in the production of a big show like The Miracle Worker (2009) or High School Musical (2008).
Green Focus at SCI
Through the efforts of the students in the Silverthorn Environmental Protection Agency SCI has become an award winning Echo School. We have concentrated on the Mill Place Naturalization Garden and our board audited waste management to keep students aware of their environmental responsibilities.
Compete With The Best
We believe that students learn about themselves and grow to understand others by participating in athletics. We offer lunch hour teams in ball hockey, basketball and many others. We compete against other schools in football, flag football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, wresting, soccer, track and field, cross country, softball, baseball and other sports.
The Arts @ Silverthorn
Performance opportunities! Our Dance program boasts a competitive dance team. The Visual Arts department teams up with the dance classes to put on two big shows per year. Drama works to put on a Sears Festival entry! Music features bands, string orchestra, choir, and various small ensembles. Over 40 performance opportunities are created each year, including foreign trips.
Technology: Traditional and High Tech
Does learning about cars make your engine rev? Are you more in tune with the creative side of cabinet making? We have both plus an assortment of computer technology and even a working TV studio. We round out our tech offering with 3D computer animation, CAD, Multimedia and Visual Effects, graphic design, computer animation and other classes.
