PARTNERSHIP WITH A KENYA SCHOOL
Albion Heights has been a oart of WE SCHOOLS for many years. As part of our committment to this program we raise awareness and funds for a local charity and a global development organization each year. This year we held a food drive to benefit a local Rexdale food bank in December. We have held a dance for the middle school students and a dance-a-thon for K-5 students to raise money for a development organization, CTC International, in Kenya. The money raised will go to towards improving and enlarging school gardens in 2 primary schools in the Rift Valley area of Kenya.
FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN
We offer full day Kindergarten at Albion Heights Junior Middle School. The program provides a full day of learning where young children develop strong foundation skills in reading, writing and math before entering Grade 1.
Through an integrated and balanced play-based program, teachers and early childhood educators create a caring and nurturing environment where children can optimize their learning potentials.
Your children will be involved in many different kinds of activities designed to help them explore, discover and grow!
LITERACY PROGRAMMING
Focused and explicit teaching of critical literacy and thinking skills is improving our students' achievement across the curriculum. From Kindergarten to Grade 8, teachers co-plan and participate in workshops to enhance their practice to support student learning. Early intervention in Kindergarten and Grade 1 nurture children's life long love of reading!
SETTLEMENT WORKER
At Albion Heights we have access to our settlement worker once a week. The Settlement and Education Partnership in Toronto is a partnership between the TDSB and Social Service agencies in Toronto. The purpose is to provide assistance to newcomers as well as many others by helping them settle down in Canada and integrate successfully into their new country.
TECHNOLOGY
At Albion Heights, students and teachers have access to various technologies such as Smart Boards, Elmo, Lap Tops, data projectors, and digital cameras. This year students have the opportunity to use 30 netbooks. These technologies are used to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.
CHARACTER ASSEMBLIES/SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES
The student of the month assemblies feature the presentation of awards to students who have demonstrated the character trait of the month and performances by various classes. Once a term, students in grades 4-8 attend an awards assembly where students are recognized for their academic achievement. Special assemblies focus on celebrating various cultures and events.
