School Improvement Teams
Our Literacy Team created a plan to focus on the Writing strand of the Language curriculum this year in conjunction with the Family of Schools focus. A schedule was established with the staff in June as to the differenct genres of writing which become a part of our Teaching Learning Critical Pathway. All grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 8 is focusing on these genres at the same time. To monitor our students' progress, writing samples are gathered on regular basis and kept in a binder for easy access. Data walls with reading levels from the DRA and CASI are also maintained.
Special Education Programs
A variety of special education programs and services are offered to meet the needs of all students, including students with exceptionalities, such as behavioural, communication, and intellectual disabilities. Students' exceptionalities are identified through a formal review process undertaken by an identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC).
Character Education
Character Education is an important part of the culture of Beaumonde Heights. We distribute certificates at our monthly assembly to which the families and caregivers of our students are invited and attend in high numbers. We aim to embed the attributes identified by the Toronto District School Board into all aspects of the curriculum.
EcoSchool
/Certificates are also presented to students who work diligently to reduce their carbon footprints at our monthly assemblies. Teachers are provided with ample Professional Development and resources to assist them with embedding environmental literacy in their Literacy, Social Studies and Science curriculum.
Equity
Our mission at Beaumonde Heights Junior Middle School is to provide each student with the skills they need to succeed. We select our learning resources carefully to reflect our community. Staff is also selected to reflect the community.
