Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute is one of the most diverse secondary schools in the TDSB. The secret to our student success stems from the many cultures that come together to create an amazing learning and social environment where students, staff and our community learn from one another. MGCI offers many unique programs; horticulture, financial securities, SHSM, leadership and our TOPS program, proclaimed by McLean's magazine as "best across the nation". We also have over 90 student-led co-curricular activities and a wide range of competitive team sports. At MGCI, we ensure that every student that enters our building has choice in programming and a safe learning environment where they fully apply their creative talents. Read more

Marc Garneau: What We Offer

In addition to the regular instructional programs mandated by the Ministry of Education, our school offers choices in a variety of program areas: Arts, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality, Co-operative Education, Languages and Athletics. We also offer core ESL and ESL-sensitive courses to our early language learners.  Details of these programs can be found in the Choices document available at www.tdsb.on.ca.  A hard copy is provided to students and parents in February of each year to assist them in choosing courses for the following year.

Talented Offerings for Programs in the Sciences

TOPS is our enrichment program for students across Ontario who share a love and interest in mathematics and science. Our students work together for four years sharing goals and interests similar to their own. Grade 10 students experience a unique expedition to Algonquin Park, publish papers and present their findings. Students must meet all application requirements.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)

The SHSM program is supported by the Ministry, universities and colleges. Students' qualifications are recorded and the Red Seal is displayed on their diploma to acknowledge their achievements. The SHSM program prepares students to promote their ideas and concepts in a professional manner in any career they choose to pursue.

ESL helps students to learn English and develop the academic skills they need for success. ESL-sensitive courses for newcomers are available in geography, history, business, math and science. Credit courses in English Literacy Development (ELD) are for students accelerating their literacy skills.

Special Education

A variety of special education services are offered to meet the needs of all students, including those with behavioural, physical, and intellectual special needs.  We also accomodate students with multiple exceptionalities.  We have a support team that include teachers, counsellors, and educational assistants to help our students thrive and succeed.
