Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Yesterday, a tragic event took place in Toronto and we want to update you on the TDSB's support of our students, staff and schools.

First, we want to extend our thoughts and condolences to all of those impacted by yesterday’s events on Yonge Street. At the TDSB, we have provided Principals with resources that can be helpful in a school setting to engage students and staff who have questions or need to share their emotions or thoughts about this tragedy. To help support you, our Professional Support Services staff have shared the following tips for parents that can help with conversations with children who may experience a wide range of reactions and emotions at this difficult time.

Out of respect for the victims and their families, we have lowered our flags at all Board offices and schools.

As a result of the ongoing police investigation in the area, school bus transportation to and from schools located in and around Yonge Street between Sheppard Avenue to Finch Avenue may experience delays. The TDSB's head office at 5050 Yonge Street is also located in this area and is closed today. We regret any disruption of central head office services and, depending on the status of the police investigation, we hope to have normal central services resume as soon as possible.

Please check our website at www.tdsb.on.ca for updates.
Sincerely,
