Background |
| The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments
of reading, writing, and mathematics were administered to all students
in Grades 3 and 6 during Spring 2006. The assessments measure how
well students have met the provincial expectations in The Ontario
Curriculum, Grades 1-8. Each assessment covers the knowledge and
skills that students are expected to have acquired by the end of
the grade being assessed. These assessments contain questions that
require written responses as well as multiple-choice questions.
Overall student performance is reported using a four-level scale
that is consistent with the four levels in The Ontario Curriculum
and is aligned with levels on the Ontario Student Report Card.
- Level 4 is above the provincial standard.
- Level 3 is the provincial standard set by the Ministry. This
standard represents a high level of achievement.
- Level 2 is below but approaching the provincial standard.
- Level 1 is below the provincial standard.
Summary results are reported using two methods:
|
|
Method 1 includes all students in the school,
Board or province. In addition to the percentage of students at
each of the four levels, percentages are reported for exempt, no
data and not enough evidence for Level 1. Students with no data
are students for whom no booklets or blank booklets were sent to
the EQAO, most likely because the student was absent for the full
assessment or for most of it. Not enough evidence for Level 1 includes
students who provided enough information to score but produced work
that was below Level 1. |
|
Method 2 includes students who actually took
part in the assessment and produced at least some work that could
be scored. Students are excluded from these calculations if they
were exempted or had no data. |

Action
TDSB staff will review and analyse the results to develop a Board
Action Plan that will be submitted to the EQAO. Each school will
analyse its own results and develop a School Action Plan with strategies
to improve student achievement. This process will be done through
the School Improvement\Business Budget Planning Process.
The TDSB has also produced a School Profile for every school. These
profiles are used annually to report to parents on each school’s
EQAO results as well as other details regarding school plans, programs,
services and student population. Results for each school in the
TDSB is posted on the TDSB’s website at http://www.tdsb.on.ca/schools/school_profiles.htm.
