Cedarvale Students Dance for the Cause

Cedarvale Community School’s School Advisory Committee helped organize a Dance-a-thon to raise money for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS).  Cedarvale's principal, Carmelo Nanfara, explains how the entire school community is constantly talking about taking initiative and making a difference in the greater community. “It is incredible to see the effort students, parents and staff put forth in helping students in our own city.  Cedarvale is fortunate to have such a caring, dedicated and actively involved group of parents, students and staff", says Mr. Nanfara.

Prior to the dance-a-thon, representatives from TFSS attended a school assembly to help students understand how the foundation helps support children across the TDSB in various ways, like nutrition programs, vision/hearing tests and by providing winter clothing. Simon, a grade 3 student, stated “The presenters helped me understand how they use the money raised. I am glad that students that don’t have snacks will be provided with things to eat at their school.”

On Valentine’s Day, Cedarvale students danced their little hearts out for the cause! Grade 4 teacher Dara Baek shared her thoughts, “It was an excellent initiative and I felt that it was a really good idea to get students thinking about fundraising for children in our own city who need help. We often fundraise for people in other parts of the world and it’s important to remember that people everywhere can use assistance.”

Students wore pink, red and white for the occasion. They had the opportunity to eat cereal and dance to energetic music provided by the Magen Boys DJ.  It was a fun way to raise money for an important cause. The event raised approximately $2800 and Cedarvale students take comfort knowing that the money raised will go a long way to help students across the Toronto District School Board.
