EQAO results show continued improvement in literacy and numeracy

Results released on September 13 by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) show that the Toronto District School Board continues to see steady improvement in reading, writing and mathematics. This year the Board is particularly proud of its gains in Grade 9 Applied Math with the percentage of students who performed at or above the provincial standard increasing 4% (30%-34%) compared to last year.

Since the implementation of the Director’s Grade 9 Applied Math Strategy in 2010, the percentage of Grade 9 students who performed at or above the provincial standard increased 8% in Applied Math.

In 2011-2012, the percentage of Grade 3 students who performed at or above the provincial standard increased 1% in Reading (64% to 65%), 3% in Writing (74% to 77%), and remained the same in Mathematics (70%) compared to last year.

In 2011-2012, the percentage of Grade 6 students who performed at or above the provincial standard increased 1% in Reading (73% to 74%), 1% in Writing (74% to 75%), and 1% in Mathematics (61% to 62%) compared to last year.

In Grade 9 Academic Math, the percentage of students who performed at or above the provincial standard increased 2% (81% to 83%) compared to last year.

  • Over the last five years, the percentage of all Grade 3 students who performed at or above the provincial standard, increased 8% in Reading (57% to 65%), 13% in Writing (64% to 77%), and 3% in Mathematics (67% to 70%).
  • Over the last five years, the percentage of all Grade 6 students who performed at or above the provincial standard, increased 11% in Reading (63% to 74%), 9% in Writing (66% to 75%), and 2% in Mathematics (60% to 62%).
  • Over the last five years, the percentage of all Grade 9 students who performed at or above the provincial standard, increased 15% in Applied Mathematics (19% to 34%).
