TDSB Committed to Putting Students First During Local Negotiations

With the successful passage of new legislation that sets out the financial parameters for negotiations with our local unions, the Toronto District School Board is focused on the start of a new school year, making student achievement a top priority. It starts with ensuring we have collective agreements in place that reflect our local needs.

This year, as always, we have worked with the Province and our educational partners towards signing collective agreements and we remain committed to ensuring local needs are met and reflected in those contracts. Our students and staff are part of one of the top education systems in the world, and we will ensure this record is continued beyond the current round of bargaining.

Negotiating is a process between two parties to arrive at a resolution that ultimately sustains relationships for the greater good over the long term. We strongly believe that teacher work conditions are also student work conditions. Thus, we will continue to advocate for further opportunities to bargain in good faith.

In addition to realistic financial provisions that address economic restraint, responsible collective bargaining must ensure conditions for student success, achievement and safety. As a school board we continue to hold these as priorities.

Over the coming days and weeks, our focus will continue to be on safety of our students and preserving the integrity of the school day at each and every one of our schools.
