Another successful school year has come to a close! Hundreds of thousands of students and staff break for a well-deserved summer vacation beginning June 29. The TDSB extends wishes for a safe and happy summer holiday to all students, parents, and staff. In particular, best wishes for success in the future are extended to our graduating students, many of whom are leaving our schools as Ontario Scholars.
While administrative offices will remain open throughout the summer, most schools are closed for regular instruction during July and August. But that doesn't mean that students will be idle. There are a variety of exciting opportunities available in the city to keep students busy throughout the summer.

The TDSB is once again a partner in Focus on Youth Toronto (FOYT), a Ministry of Education initiative that enhances high quality summer program opportunities for children and youth in Toronto’s urban inner city areas. FOYT offers free use of school space for organized community-based programs, and provides employment opportunities and leadership activities for the youth of these communities. The FOYT program is in its sixth year of operation and promotes learning through play, healthy lifestyles and positive self-image for children and youth.
Selected TDSB schools will offer summer school for secondary students through the TDSB's Continuing Education program. Many students are enrolled in full credit, remedial credit, or non-credit literacy courses.
The City of Toronto also offers many courses and camps for children of all ages. Visit the City of Toronto's web site to peruse this summer's Fun Guide. The AGO Summer Art and Design Camps are another exciting way for kids to spend some time getting creative this summer.
Swimming is a fun way to stay active and cool during the summer months and the City of Toronto operates 230 swimming facilities. Here are some swimming safety tips from Swim to Survive so children can stay safe in the water this summer.
We can keep our school and community a safe environment for children if we plan ahead, stay aware and keep others aware. Check out these street safety tips!
